Python regius bezpochyby patrí k najznámejším a najpopulárnejším hadom, ktoré sa celosvetovo v chovoch vyskytujú. Pochádzajú z Afriky kde sú rozsiahle rozšírené. Patria medzi stredné druhy hadov kedže v dospelosti dosahujú len dĺžku 120 - 180 cm pričom samice bývajú podstatne väčšie v porovnaní s samcami. Jendá sa o veľmi pokojné hady. Ich anglické meno "ball python" presne vystihuje ich spôsob obrany. Tieto zvieratá sa nesnažia hrýzť ale pri pocite ohrozenia sa stáčajú do klbka tak aby mali hlavu skrýtú a chránenú telom.

They are very placid snakes. Their english name "ball python" describes their way of defence. They don't try to bite, instead of that when threatened they roll up to a ball so the head is hidden and well protected by the body.
